I have left Melbourne. Im pining. Its ok tho, as we are going back before Christmas. I am now in the wonder that is Adelaide. You know that part in Wayne’s World they are doing the blue screen and they arrive at Delaware? Well thats what Adelaide feels like.
“What is a goon?” my Mum asked me when I told her that was what I was drinking.
Well Mum, Goon is the fabulous name they give to boxed wine that is generally a bit evil. You can buy it in huge 4 litre boxes and its horribly cheap.
Notorious with the backpacking scene Goon is wine that is produced after the grapes have given everything they’ve got. They are squeezed one more time and then the results are mixed with egg whites or fish eggs. Its a true attack to pallet and leaves you feeling rotten for the entire morning after.
Not nice, but an inexpensive way of getting drunk. You can also buy smaller 2 litre boxes which tend to be a bit nicer. Posh Goon. This is what I prefer.
My brother warned me about Melbourne before I arrived. “Be carful,” he said, “you’ll fall in love with it here and want to stay forever.” Well after 5 days of being here I’m afraid its too late. Im in love. Its perfect here.
So after six weeks of traveling around New Zealand I have made it to my final country. Australia! Originally I hadn’t planned to spend much time here at all as I was hoping to also squeeze South America onto this trip. I think i have made the right decision on missing it out. It has enabled me to be a lot more lenient with my budget and enjoy places by spending more time there. So seeing as Im on this side of the World I might as well make the most of it. Next three months I will be traveling along the east Coast of Australia all the way up to Cairns.
Im now lucky enough to be traveling with both my best friends after meeting Bob at the airport. He is going to be staying with us for the entire duration of Australia only flying home one day before we do. Im so excited. We all have a massive bag of duty free each and a lot of catching up to do. I have a feeling the next few days might be a bit of a blur.
“best friend, best friends, never ever break friends, if you do, i’l flush you down the loo”
So its last few day here in New Zealand. After six weeks of being here Im quite excited to move on. We have traveled mostly by bus so I’m looking forward to not having to get one for a bit. Some of the bus drivers have been pretty grumpy.
So we have arrived in Nelson for a few days. Its our last stop here on the North Island. It’s big on beer producing and local brewing.
Today we took a walk up to the Franz Josef Glacier, we decided not to climb it as Bells has a bit of a phobia of ice. It was nice just to look at though. The Glacier has retreated somewhat in the past years and this is mostly blamed on the effects of Global Warming. I wonder what the future of it will be.
So sometimes things dont go to plan…so what?
Today for the first time in over 8 months of traveling I made my first real blooper and missed the only bus out of here. It wasn’t through laziness or being late, I just got the time completely wrong. A pretty stupid mistake I know but I am only human.
Well this is a pretty magical place. Its not so easy to get to but the drive in has to be one of the most beautiful in the world. You cant help but learn a little geography when you visit here as you learn that Milford Sound is in fact a fjord. You know a fjord right, a water filled valley created by a retreating glacier.
