“best friend, best friends, never ever break friends, if you do, i’l flush you down the loo”
So its last few day here in New Zealand. After six weeks of being here Im quite excited to move on. We have traveled mostly by bus so I’m looking forward to not having to get one for a bit. Some of the bus drivers have been pretty grumpy.
So we have arrived in Nelson for a few days. Its our last stop here on the North Island. It’s big on beer producing and local brewing.
Today we took a walk up to the Franz Josef Glacier, we decided not to climb it as Bells has a bit of a phobia of ice. It was nice just to look at though. The Glacier has retreated somewhat in the past years and this is mostly blamed on the effects of Global Warming. I wonder what the future of it will be.
So sometimes things dont go to plan…so what?
Today for the first time in over 8 months of traveling I made my first real blooper and missed the only bus out of here. It wasn’t through laziness or being late, I just got the time completely wrong. A pretty stupid mistake I know but I am only human.
Well this is a pretty magical place. Its not so easy to get to but the drive in has to be one of the most beautiful in the world. You cant help but learn a little geography when you visit here as you learn that Milford Sound is in fact a fjord. You know a fjord right, a water filled valley created by a retreating glacier.
Today I saw an actual whale! It was amazing. His name was Tiaki and he is a Sperm whale. I can’t believe I actually got to see him. I traveled to Pikora on the East Coast of the South island. It took about half hour for our boat to travel to the site where Tiaki was last seen. It was then about another tense 15 mins before he surfaced for air. it was really incredible just being able to see the top of him in the water and puffts as he cleared his blow hole.
Omg! omg! omg!
Neutral milk hotel
tickets = success
must be back in Auckland for 24th!
One really great thing about New Zealand is playing Lord Of The Rings. Today I took a trip to the Hobbiton movie set just outside of Matamata where they filmed the shire scenes from the movies.
Im in new Zealand and it really is quite spectacular. I was so sad to leave South East Asia after the past 8 months of traveling. It was a really incredible time. At first New Zealand seemed so exciting with its familiar shops, foods and western looking people. I was happily surprised when a car actually stopped at a Zebra crossing and I could cross the road. Really?
