This is my last stop in Malaysia. This country has felt very different form touristy Thailand. Kuala Lumpa is different to rest of the cities I have visited here too. Its a like a modern metropolis. There are some great shopping malls here and many european and american brands, including Top Shop!
I was reading on my hostel wall about a man called Jim Thompson who went missing here in the cameron highlands and was never found. His name sounded familiar and after looking it up, I discovered that he was a large silk importer in Thailand. I’v seen his name on some fancy shops over there. You can visit his old house in Bagkok so I’m definitely going to do this when I go back.
One of the things about my family is their absolute love for tea. Honestly I don’t know anyone who drinks as much tea as my Mum and Dad. They get through about 2 kettles a year just boiling enough water. This is one of the things I have been missing from home. There’s nothing like a good cuppa.
I like owls, they’re pretty cute. I never thought that I would ever find a whole museum dedicated to them though. The best thing about it is that it wasn’t even just owls as a species…it was just memorabilia.
Its been a few days since I last updated. I have now left Thailand after a brief stop in Hat Yai and have crossed the boarder in Melaysia. I am currently in Georgetown, Penang. My friend is a ill so I’v been having to explore the city by myself. Its extremely diverse here with influences of India, China, Melay and Thai. This makes it a great place for a food and the selection on offer from the restaurants is excellent.
